During a winter storm, icy walkways and parking lots create serious liability for commercial properties. That is why we take a zero-tolerance approach to winter weather. When precipitation is forecast, we pre-treat your property to prevent snow from bonding to the surface. Plowing typically begins once accumulation reaches two inches. After the storm, we clear the property and apply a follow-up treatment to prevent refreezing.
Anti-icing is a proactive treatment applied to lots and walkways before snow is removed. It leaves a thin layer between the pavement and the snow, so plows can clear the surface cleanly. Without pre-treatment, traffic packs the snow down into compacted ice. That ice takes more chemical to break up, plus additional scraping and reapplication. For these reasons, BSI recommends anti-icing as the safest and most cost-effective approach.
De-icing is a reactive treatment, applied after plowing or during an ice event. We treat lots and walkways to melt existing ice and prevent meltwater from refreezing as black ice.
